This past weekend, I attended the 140th Anniversary of the Battle of Marianna, Florida. My brother, Mark & I set up our Hospital tent in the Confederate camp on Thursday night. Friday morning was warm and walking ot of my wall tent, I could look down over the battlefield and there wa a mist hovering over the ground. School Days started and I was at station # 6, Medical Corps.
I love School Days because I get a chance to interact with the kids who come through the camps. I have decided to allow one child from each class to assist me with the surgery demonstration. I also pick one child out of the crowd and wrap their hand to show what an amputated hand would be like. I ask them what hand they write with and then chose the other one. I wrap it and tell them that they have to keep it wrapped all day at school! Maybe they will actually remember what I tied to teach them about Civil War Medicine?
Over all I had a good time. I am not really sure if I will go back next year? I will make that decision at a later time.
